A majority of the time recently, silence. In the evenings, we have 4 of us playing against each other in Rome:Total War. It's hard to listen to music with Praetorian Guard chasing you or Carthaginian Elephants.

The lesser amount GD! Lots of '69, scatterings of what people are excited about (C/R from SDH's missile pick) and 3-24-90.

Yesterday was...

Blue Country Heart (Jorma K)
Renegade Creation (Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Jimmy Haslip & Gary Novak)
Sigh No More (Mumford & Sons)

Trying to get a migraine under control this morning, but thinking of running through "So Many Roads" while I get some honey-do's taken care of. Tends to be one of my "go to" albums when I'm not able to put in time to focus on a concert.

Define "recently" :-)

Over the past week or so, road music: 4/5/69, 12/5/71, 6/24/85, 3/31/89, JGB 5/5/82, Abigail Washburn, Uncle Earl, Del McCoury; at home: 3/24/73, 3/22/90, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Charlie Parker, Brahms.

Now, here's another question to add to the quiz: What are you listening to, right … NOW?

Yes, now. Not 10 minutes from now when you turn off that Lady Gaga you had on and put on something obscure and impressive.

My answer: Nothing, actually, except for a bunch of chickens cackling and birds singing. Sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of the chickens ...

LAst night:
Just got Johnny Cash 'Personal File' Bootleg vol I that just came out. 2 CDs 49 songs that had never seen the light of day (recordings anyway). Listened to the first CD last night. * I loved it*

Also listened to a few Set II songs of an audience MONO stream to Furthur's Radio City show. They played 'Train in Vain' by the Clash (1st set)

& 2nd set looks incredible to me-I'll check it out on GDradio.net this afternoon

Clementines

I have been listening to Catch A Fire on a monthly basis for at least a couple of decades, it never fails to put a smile on my face. If you like the Wailers circa 1973 I highly recomend this pull

Bob Marley + the Wailers
10/31/73
The Record Plant
Sausalito, CA

( ( ( FM ) ) )

01 intro
02 Rastaman Chant
03 Bend Down Low
04 Slave Driver
05 You Can't Blame the Youth
06 Stop That Train
07 Burnin' & Lootin'
08 Kinky Reggae
09 Get Up Stand Up
10 Lively Up Yourself
11 Walk the Proud Land
12 outro

unfortunately I have lost the link.

I do not know what is wrong with me but I have been on massive Phish kick in the past couple of weeks. Fall 1997, 1995 and the 2.0 oxy stuff from 2003. It took me 20 years to get into this band...call me a slow learner.

thanks! i will have to look for this... i do very much enjoy The Wailers. i prefer the early 'African Herbsman' type sound to the later when they became Bob Marley and The Wailers - they kinda went all commercial and stuff, just not as good as the early true reggae sound.

Currently listening to selections from a nice torrent I found of a couple hundred MP3's from DL2's Taper's Section, specifically the Crazy Fingers from 7/13/76 (one of my favorite versions), and it's making me anxious for a DigitalRBB/CMiller upgrade.

Grateful Dead - 3/24 & 25/1993 from the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill.
I have finally gotten around to transfering my audience master tapes. Hadn't listened to either of these shows in a very long time.
Was suprised at how good a few songs were - Let It Grow, Crazy Fingers, Friend Of The Devil, Eternity, Wave To The Wind (should have been an instrmental).
Dissappointed in many others - Here Comes Sunshine and Lucy In The Sky (VERY weak vocally), Playin' In The Band (WAY too short), Morning Dew (sounds tired).
Overall opinion - good solid shows but some very weak moments.
Oh - the tapes sound great, even better than the soundboards. Would gladly send CDs to anyone interested...

I recently bought "Go To Heaven," "From the Mars Hotel," and "Blues for Allah," and so I'm listening to those albums. The last show I listened to was the first show in the Europe '72 Tour, I think it was April 20th or so.

Speaking about "Go To Heaven," I really, really like "Far From Me." Weird, because it's not as well known as some of their other songs, but beautiful nonetheless.

One of these days this Boone Creek show will earn it's rightful place in the LMA collection. I weaseled this tape of mine into Community Audio 3 years ago. Permission to share this tape is clearly being given by Cindy Baucom in her review of my item. Cindy is related to bandmember Terry Baucom.

http://www.archive.org/details/bc76-03-20.SBD

Boone Creek - March xx, 1976 - SBD taped by me
Ricky Skaggs - age 21, mandolin, fiddle
Jerry Douglas - age 20, dobro
Vince Gill - age 18, accoustic / electric guitars, electric mandolin, pedal steel

I've mentioned once before the "disturbance" these guys created at this Holiday Inn in Louisville, KY. Since this exact date in March remains unknown, this might as well be a TDIH. Tommy Hough was their amazing "crossover" electric bassist. Tommy was an exciting Rock 'n Roller type. He played with lots of energy and stage showmanship. He died in a car accident many years ago. This tape is dedicated to Tom.

It was Boone Creek's inaugural live performance in Louisville. Vince Gill was the newest member of this band. They had recently been to Nashville and recorded their first album. I believe this was Vince Gill's first live performance with them. This gig was the first of several weekday nights in a run at a Holiday Inn - in the restaurant bar and lounge. When me and some Bluegrass Alliance musicians showed up, everyone else there was eating their dinner. The whole band lit up and became energized when we arrived. Otherwise, that crowd was mostly a bunch of businessmen eating dinner.

Ricky Skaggs had an incredible PA system for Boone Creek. He knew a lot about sound equipment. Ricky Skaggs and Boone Creek had a bi-amped PA system, plenty of power, and some JBLs. Ricky knew how to run the mixer, and he had a good command of all the equipment. I introduced myself to Rickky and explained that I was soundman for Bluegrass Alliance. Ricky and I chatted about sound equipment for awhile.

Then I asked Ricky if I could tape them. He already knew I had tapes of just about everybody. I asked if he had a SBD feed available. I told him my Nakamichi 550 was outside in my car. He took a quick look at the back of his mixer for me, and said, "I have one channel left back here that you can patch into. Go get your tape deck, and we'll plug it in."

Ricky is the frontman for Boone Creek. During the opening-tune, Ricky blows the doors off Holiday Inn's lounge with his state-of-the-art PA system. Then Ricky apologizes to the diners there. He says he'll "turn it down" while they're eating dinner. Ricky's "apology speech" is recorded on my tape during his intro to track 2, Me and Bobby McGee.

I am so sorry to hear that Tommy Hough died.

I met him a few times during his sojourn in Philadelphia.

He was a lovely man.

If anyone could tell me more of what happened, I would appreciate that.

Thank you again Monte for this recording. IMO this, of your many, is your finest contribution to LMA.

This week I listened to an entire show from 1988, 3/27/88 Hampton to be exact. I do TRY to get beyond 1976...

To wash away that experience, I went acoustic with Garcia/Grisman and listened to the Pizza Tapes and Shady Grove. So excellent.

While at work I did put on the Pirates Cove show, very rewarding... and over this weekend I'll try to catch up on a few other shows recommended this past week.
